MISSION STATEMENT: The Shalom Nature Center exists to promote Jewish environmental nature education in all types of formal and informal educational settings. To this end, the Center will pioneer new ways of making nature a partner in Jewish education. We will endeavor to develop curriculum to guide the integration of Jewish studies and nature experiences, discover effective ways to apply ancient Jewish ecological wisdom to contemporary Jewish life and serve as a forum for Jewish naturalists, environmentalists, educators and students.
The Shalom Nature Center has been created to raise awareness in the Jewish Community about our responsibility to work and protect God's Creation. We strive to create programming for children and adults that focuses on Jewish environmental ethics and knowledge. From the dust and the rock ba-makom, in this place, to the vistas of the Sierra-Nevada Mountains, our goal is to turn the outdoors into a vibrant Jewish learning classroom. Our programming is designed to accomplish several goals with our participants: Raise awareness about the connection between Judaism and our natural environment. Show our symbiotic relationship with the natural environment. Enable our participants to make responsible and educated decisions as to how they interact with the world around us. Convey the spirituality that can be found in and through nature.
